No data leaves your browser. CodeKeys has no accounts, no server-side database, no cookies, no analytics scripts and no third-party requests. The site is a set of static files.
What is stored, and where
- Your lessons, keystroke timings, unit scores, settings, saved custom code and a local event log (lessons started and finished, unlocks, settings changes, errors) are stored in this browser's IndexedDB on your device.
- Code you import from your own files or folders is read in the browser. Only the extracted snippets (with the file path) are kept, in this browser's IndexedDB; the files themselves are never uploaded. Remove them with Custom → Remove imported code.
- Your theme and font size are also kept in localStorage so the page paints in the right colours.
- The app files and practice content are cached by a service worker so the site works offline.
None of this is sent to us or anyone else. Browser storage is not encrypted, so CodeKeys never stores anything sensitive; please do not paste secrets into the custom code box.
What leaves your device
- Nothing, unless you choose to: an exported backup file is saved to your disk, and you decide whether to share it (for example with the beta programme).
- Shared result links put your score (language, mode, WPM, accuracy, date) in the part of the URL after
#, which browsers never send to the server. - Like any website, the static host receives standard request information (such as IP address and the page requested) when files are downloaded. We use only the host's cookieless, aggregate visit counts.
Your control
Settings → Export backup downloads all of your data. Settings → Reset all data deletes it from this browser. Clearing this site's data in your browser does the same.
Children
CodeKeys collects no personal data from anyone, including users under 18.
